Objections to Gender Roles in Ministry Answered

I’ve compiled answers to common objections to respecting the Bible’s teaching that women are not to preach or have authority in the Body of Messiah. I’ve picked some of the most common to answer here, not all of them. If you’ve ever had doubts about this, or considered maybe we do need to forget about gender roles in ministry, I think these answers should give you confidence in the limitations that God has placed. We do not live in a world of endless “freedom.” Limitations are there for a reason. There are amazing things for women to do in the community and the Church, but imitating men isn’t one of them.

2 Corinthians 13:1-7 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. 2 I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned

Hillary Clinton vs. The Holy Bible

Here’s another one I wrote before the election. Though not a study of Clinton’s policies or scandals, it’s a study of something she does right before God: She is still married to the same man. She has never turned to divorce and remarriage as countless Christians have.

Does she merely have a political marriage anyway? Could what some view as the flaw in her marriage actually be its strength? Do we actually have imperial marriages too? Despite her many failings, Hillary Clinton gives us a good example of being a “doer of the word.”

You can find this essay at my holiness and reform website https://holinessofthebride.com at the bottom of the Covenant Marriage page.

Christ + Nothing = Everything || Spoken Word

Be a good Christian. Do good stuff. Right?

- Lyrics -
You get distracted?
You see something shiny like a pearl?
And then your train of thought’s
gone and you’re like—
oh look a squirrel!

See in the Christian world,
we do a lot of good stuff.
We love like Christ,
whether it’s easy or tough.
(it’s what we’re supposed to do!)
But distraction comes and we want to look good,
We want to gain merit with God...
if we could.

But I want to drop a wild idea
that will make many berserk,

And that’s that “sin”
can masquerade as “good work.”

Well what do I mean?

Memorize the Bible.
Sing in the Christmas recital.
Give money on Sunday.
Feel guilty every day.
Listen to the Christian radio
Don’t get drunk, say, “no.”
Don’t get angry at that bus that’s beeping.
Go to seminary.
Preach a good sermon.
Teach at seminary.
Talk about Christ.
Go on a mission trip to Africa—I know I have.
Baptize people.
Homeschool.
Teach school.
Feed the homeless.
Work in a soup kitchen.
Teach from the Bible.
Start a ministry.
Lead people to Christ.

“Good things,” right?

Didn’t Jesus say,
“They will know you by your fruits!”

Just like me with this ministry of Knok Studio:
Video, Jesus, film shoots.

See these could be “good things,” couldn’t they?
I mean I’d be envious of the
person who did these everyday.
But. They’re still things.

A quick street preach in the Launceston Mall, Tasmania. Our church has had difficulty getting permits to preach in the city as we were always shut down by police, but thanks be to God that He has opened a door that we can do it freely again!

2 Corinthians 11:18-33

18 Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also. 19 For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise. 20 For ye suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if a man smite you on the face . . .

Bible Reading Job 1:13-22 Handling Hardship Righteously

I believe that the Book of Job is in our Bible for a reason. I believe it’s there for us to look to when we are going through rough times. There are so many verses that do imply that only good things happen when you are a child of God that books like this bring balance. It allows us to see that God does test some of us to see how much we love him. He allows certain things to happen to put the accuser’s accusation to the test sometimes.

God already knows who we are and how we are going to handle things, but the accuser doesn’t. He thinks everyone is like him--a prideful, 100 percent selfish, and hateful being that would curse God the moment something goes bad. He thinks that we would all stop being “on God’s team” the moment he allowed one of our blessings to be taken or some abuse to occur. Is satan right? Job answers that question.

1 Samuel 2:27-36

27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house? 28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me?
