Wisdom through the ages

The Daily Pulse (Saturday, December 26, 2016): The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.Proverbs 12:15 (NIV)

Jesus Lord at Thy birth!

The Daily Pulse (Friday, December 25, 2015): When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. Luke 2:15-20

The Daily Pulse (Thursday, December 24, 2015): Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:13-14 (NIV)

Lowly shepherds receive Good News!

The Daily Pulse (Wednesday, December 23, 2015): And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:8-12 (NIV)

Exodus 16:1-36

And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt. 2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: 3 And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

A humble birth

The Daily Pulse (Tuesday, December 22, 2015): While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:6-7 (NIV)

A ordinary census, extraordinary results

The Daily Pulse (Monday, December 21, 2015): In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. Luke 2:1-5 (NIV)

12-20-15 MESSAGE: "Being The Best Man"

We are called to be the best man, not the groom. It is imperative that we allow Christ Jesus to shine as we fade into the background. An encouraging and inspiring message on the right place for Christians who seek to be the best man!

Advent: Joy in the Magnificent God

Southside Baptist Church
December 20, 2015
Pastor Bishop Helsley
Luke 1:39-55

Summary: During the Christmas season, we talk a lot about joy, but do Christians real manifest joy in their lives. Joy is greater and more powerful than the circumstances of our lives, and we are each called to manifest that joy in our lives and to share it with others.

Acts 21:22-40

22 What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come. 23 Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them; 24 Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.

The Third Sunday of Advent: Knowing God's Love

Southside Baptist Church
December 13, 2015
Pastor Bishop Helsley
Zephaniah 3:14-20

Summary: Relationships are significant and important. In fact, relationships are an essential element of life. In most loving relationships, the relationship begins with a need to demonstrate love and affection, but eventually the relationship develops beyond the need for proof. Many people turn to God for favors or miracles as evidence of His love, but in our relationship with a loving God, we have to reach a point when we no longer need evidence, but simply know that God loves us.

The Second Sunday of Advent: The Way of Peace

Southside Baptist Church
December 6, 2015
Pastor Bishop Helsley
Luke 1:68-79

Summary: Christmas is normally a chaotic and busy time for many people. But, the true meaning of Christmas is all about the coming of peace. When we speak about peace in the coming of Christ, we are not talking about the cessation of conflict, but rather the defeat of fear and worry that comes from resting in the promises of God.

Second thoughts

The Daily Pulse (Friday, December 18, 2015): But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20-21 (NIV)

Why Four Gospels

Why did God inspire four different writers to chronicle parts of Jesus' life? This teaching answers that question, and in so doing amplifies the God-breathed perfection of His matchless Word, which has NO CONTRADICTIONS. Four verses in the Old Testament, each containing the Hebrew word semach ("branch"), point to why Matthew portrays Jesus as the King, Mark as the Servant, Luke as the Man, and John as the Son of God.
