Avery's gift is not just a coincidence. He is blessed to born into a musical family. His Great-grandfather was the extraordinary Maxwell Davis who worked for many years in Los Angeles, California as a tenor saxophone player, producer, arranger composer, songwriter, and band leader. He was known as the Father of the West Coast R&B during the '50s and '60s. Some of the artists he worked with were Etta James, B.B. King, Richard Berry, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Jesse Belvin, Z.Z. Hill, Percy Mayfield...and he arranged an album featuring Louis Armstrong in 1968 entitled Disney Songs the Satchmo Way. His memory still lives on and Avery is carrying on his legacy by becoming an astounding musician like his Great-grandfather, Maxwell Davis.

The Dunaways - Again And Again

From The Dunaways delightful album "Church In The Kitchen". Loads of catchy tunes on this one. And no contrived musical hooks, just good, genuine music. No vocal gymnastics, none required. Flat-out good ol' gospel music. Talented family, talented band. I highly recommend this album.

This is the first cut from the album, called "Again And Again". I love nostalgic songs that reach back into childhood. This is one of them.

Shara McKee - Wherever I Am

A beautiful song from Shara's album "To Be With You". Taken right out of Psalm 139, part of which goes like this (read the whole chapter on your own!):

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

His everlasting presence, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, forever, is so comforting. We just need to acknowledge His presence. Sometimes we don't do that. We "lean on our own understanding", and that's when we stumble. We need to remember the first part of Proverbs 3:5, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart". He is there. Wherever we are.

Point Of Grace - You Be The One

This song from Point Of Grace's album "A Thousand Little Things" reminded me of a couple of ministries at my home church. Although I am heavily involved in several ministries at my church, I am not directly involved with either of the ministries that came to my mind. But my wife is. One of the ministries is a mission ministry to orphanages in Guatemala. My wife (that's her at 1:25) has gone on several mission trips to Guatamala. The other is a ministry called Stephen Ministry, which is a ministry that reaches out to hurting people and provides comfort. That's what this song is all about, reaching out to others and "being the one". That may sound a little bit weird, since no one person can "be the one" to carry the weight of the world, other than Jesus. I think the point is that we should not observe hurting people and think to ourselves "someone else will take care of them". No, we are called to step in and do our part. The song is a call to service. A call for compassion.

A beautifully written song by Nicole Witt and Cindy Morgan. I believe the lead vocal on this one is Leigh Capillino.
