Mandi Thomas gives the coaches an unforgettable blind audition when she belts out the opera classic ‘Time To Say Goodbye.’
This song was originally released in 1995 by award-winning musician Andrea Bocelli. But it was his 1996 duet with Sarah Brightman that propelled the song to greatness.
“Time to say goodbye
Paesi che non ho mai
Veduto e vissuto con te
Adesso sì, li vivrò, con te partirò
Su navi per mari che, io lo so
No, no, non esistono più
It's time to say goodbye”
Today, classically trained singer Mandi Thomas is putting her own spin on this tune as she auditions for The Voice. Opera singers are rare on the singing competition, so the coach were all ears when they heard Mandi.
Afterwards, newest coach Nick Jonas commented on the unique performance. “I had goosebumps the entire time. I don’t know a whole lot about opera, although I’m a fan of yours now,” he said. “You are exactly what this show needs.”
Kelly Clarkson was the only judge to hit her button and turn around. It was a ‘heaven-sent’ moment for her. “I was singing in a shower going, ‘Please, God, like, I just want someone to come on and sing opera.’” And Mandi was overjoyed to be the newest addition to Kelly’s team, sharing that while she is classically trained, she can also sing other genres.
Kelly said, “I’ll let you sing whatever you want, but I do think that we should visit this often. Because it’s gorgeous and it’s different.”
This is definitely a competitor we’re going to keep our eyes on.
27-year-old Marna Michele easily earned her ticket to Hollywood after an incredible performance of ‘Million Reasons.’
Marna has been an American Idol fan for years. “I have daydreamed about getting a golden ticket since I was 12. This is where my future starts. I truly believe that.” But getting to this point wasn’t easily.
Marna was born with a condition called arthrogryposis that causes very weak muscles and stiff joints. “So, I can move. I can feel. I just cannot walk and I can’t lift my arms above my head.”
When she was younger, Marna never had anyone she could look up. She used leg braces and, eventually, a wheelchair but that was never portrayed in the media.
Now, she’s hoping to be that role model for others. “I want to be that inspiration for the little girl, or little boy that’s looking at the TV going, ‘Well, where am I? How am I being represented?’”
Today, she’s standing in front of the judges with an amazing performance of ‘Million Reasons’ from Lady Gaga. From Marna’s contagious personality to her strong vocals, she quickly made an impression on the judges.
After earning 3 ‘yes’ votes and her ticket to Hollywood, Katy Perry let Marna know that this had nothing to do with her condition and everything to do with her talent. “We are going to treat you the same and put the same pressure on you.”
An excited Marna fist-bumped the judges and shared the good news with her family. What an unforgettable audition.
18-year-old Michael Williams impressed the coaches with his rendition of ‘You Say’ on The Voice.
In 2018, this song became a smash hit for Christian artist Lauren Daigle. The uplifting lyrics remind us all that God is with us every step of the way.
“I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I'm not enough
Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up
Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low
Remind me once again just who I am because I need to know”
Today, Michael Williams is hoping his unique rendition of this Christian tune will be enough to earn a chair turn from one of the coaches. As this young talent belted out the iconic words, newest coach Nick Jonas was moved to turn around.
“You say I am loved when I can't feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
And you say I am held when I am falling short
And when I don't belong, oh You say I am Yours”
When God is by our side, there is truly nothing that can stand in the way. What a beautiful blessing for our Savior.
After hearing Michael’s falsetto, Nick knew that this was an artist he wanted to have on his team.
As a singer who sings in his falsetto for upwards of 60 minutes every night, in concert, Nick knows how to help Michael tap into all of his potential. This is sure to be a pairing to look out for in the upcoming competition.
18-year-old Zack Dobbins shows the judges to never judge a book by the cover with his unique American Idol audition. Zach hails from Clay, West Virginia where it’s no surprise to see a relative going down the road or recognizing a friend from their exhaust.
Despite his rough exterior, Zack is a music man at heart. “Music is a passion. You just gotta do what you like. And if nobody likes it, then that’s too bad, ‘cause you do.”
After making a promise to a girl, Zack agreed to audition for American Idol. Even though he is no longer with that girl, he decided to honor his word and attend the call. But even Zack admits that he isn’t experienced in this glamorous world. “I don’t know nothin’ about singing. Other than I like to do it.”
Donning cowboy boots and a ball cap, Zack had the judges taking a second glance. But a few beats into his original song ‘Miss Use’ and he had won over the judges with his soulful tone and honestly.
Judge Katy Perry said, “You’ve got a sound. You’re so authentic. Yeah, a lot of these people out here, they’re polished. They’ve been to some fancy school. They know blah, blah, blah. They can’t sing half as good as you.” And Lionel Ritchie agreed that Zack had a unique quality.
“You’re giving us heart and soul and real. And you just stay being like you.”
After 3 ‘yes’ votes, Zack was given his golden ticket to Hollywood where he will compete with others to win the ultimate title of American Idol. I think Katy said it best when she said, “He was a diamond in the rough.” And we’ve only scratched the surface of this rising star.

“Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality

Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy

A little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me”

In March of 2019, fan-favorite television personality Alex Trebek announced to the world that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Despite the grim prognosis, he pledged to continue hosting Jeopardy and mustering up all of his strength to defeat the cancer.
Alex shared that the one-year survival rate for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer is 18%.
Today, Alex announced that he has passed that mark and he’s updating his loyal fans and supporters on his progress. “I’d be lying if I said the journey had been an easy one. There were some good days but a lot of not-so-good days.”
He went on to say that some days were plagued with episodes of massive depression where he wondered if it was even worth it to go on. But he would quickly put those thoughts aside because “It would have certainly been a betrayal of my faith in God and the millions of prayers that have been said on my behalf.”
He also thanked his wife, Jean, who has been by his side this entire journey and given him endless amounts of love and encouragement.
The two-year survival rate is only 7% but Alex is optimistic about his future. He left his followers with these powerful words. “If we take it just one day at a time with a positive attitude, anything is possible.”
Let us continue to lift up this inspiring man in prayer as he fights this tremendous battle.
In this incredible performance on The Voice, all four judges turn their chairs around after hearing Thunderstorm Artis sing ‘Blackbird’ during the blind auditions.
It only took a few notes of Thunderstorm’s sweet and smooth sounding voice for John Legend, Nick Jonas, and Kelly Clarkson to turn their chairs.
“Sing that song! Alright,” John Legend says while Thunderstorm is performing.
Right after that, Blake Shelton turns his chair around to see the beautiful acoustic performance of ‘Blackbird.’ By the end of the song, Thunderstorm managed to get all four judges chairs turned around and a standing ovation from the audience.
“That is what this show is all about. That was unbelievable,” says Nick Jonas. “Your vocal control was just perfect, and I need you on my team. I believe that with you, we can go very, very far together. There’s definitely a story there that you can share with the world. And I’m telling you, they’re going to be honored to get to hear you sing. And I would be honored to be your coach, man.”
After Nick shares his thoughts, Kelly asks the performer a question. “Is that your given name? Thunderstorm?” she asks. “Yeah, from birth,” he replies. “Oh my, I love your parents,” Kelly tells him with a huge smile on her face.
Then she goes on to tell Thunderstorm why she would love to have him on her team.
“We turned around that quickly because we’re all very aware what is standing on stage right now. Which is someone who could win this competition,” she explains. “There’s nothing really anyone here is going to do for you vocally what God has not already gifted you with naturally. I think it would be really cool to take songs, and then you totally twist it. I think that you are going to do that all day and all night on this show. We’re just going to be your cheerleaders, trying to help you navigate the competition aspect. I have navigated a competition as a singer before and ended up winning. So, I can do that with you, I promise.”
It's clear to see why all four judges want this amazing singer on their team! His God-given talents are sure to take him far, no matter who he chooses!
The a cappella men of VoicePlay perform an incredible rendition of the Elvis Presley classic ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love.’
This iconic tune was originally recorded in 1961 for Elvis’ hit film ‘Blue Hawaii.’ It skyrocketed to the top of the charts and spurred countless covers from artists all around the world.
“Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Oh, shall I stay, would it be a sin
Oh, if I can't help falling in love with you?”
Today, we’re hearing a very special version of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ from the five men of VoicePlay. This talented group always manages to choose the perfect tune to showcase their vocal range and skill.
On their Facebook page, the unique group is given more depth. “Their performance ping-pongs between eras and styles, channeling the breadth of the musical landscape, and lacing it with inventive and often hilarious on-stage theatrics.”
Over the years, they’ve given us amazing covers of popular songs such as ‘True Colors’ and ‘Don’t Stop Believin.’ And today’s performance is no exception as they belt out the lyrics that we all known and love.
“Like a river flows, surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes, some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
Oh, for I can't help falling in love with you”
This is definitely a rendition of ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ that Elvis would be proud of. Who else is singing along to this fan-favorite?
This simple tune is in 3/4 time, currently out of favor even in C&W, alas. I think the oceans move in it. My daughter RJ likes this song a lot. Marty Robbins may, too. ;-) So, you tough warrior 'ladies', let the real ladies left behind enjoy it, will ya? My kid & I appreciate all of you. Have lived under, fought against & escaped from the brutal Soviet Communism. The Czech & Soviet KGB killed nine (9) of my buddies & indirectly (tortured) my baby brother in the '60s. The gaping black hole in my mind, heart & memory is still there... Freedom ain't free, indeed. God bless.
Robert of Prague "Rather Free in Want than Rich in Servitude"
23-year-old DeWayne Crocker Jr. gave an impressive but it was his grandmother’s presence that stole the show on American Idol.
When we first met DeWayne, he shared his love for music and the Lord. “I’m a worship leader now and I love God. I love what I do at my church and I love singing.” DeWayne has been perfecting his gift for years, even performing at the wedding of tennis star Serena Williams.
Today, he’s taking his stunning vocals to one of the biggest stages as he auditions for American Idol. And this Pensacola native had no problem winning over the judges with his unique rendition of ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’ from Bobby McFerrin.
“Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now”
After earning 3 ‘yes’ votes from judges Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan, DeWayne was on his way to Hollywood. But before he left, he just had to let Lionel know that his great-grandmother was outside and one of his biggest fans.
Of course, she was allowed to meet the legend and it led to one of the best moments all season. Sylvia revealed that she danced to ‘Lady’ at her wedding. That’s when Luke sat down at the piano to play the iconic song, letting Sylvia and Lionel share a very special dance.
What an incredible moment!

On The Voice Kids in Germany, 12-year-old Luca stuns the judges with his energetic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ piano audition.
Right from the beginning of his audition, the judges are clearly impressed with Luca’s talent. Once he starts playing the piano and singing, they all start looking around at each other with giant smiles across each one of their faces. One of the judges keeps saying “wow, wow,” while another judge is enthusiastically lip singing along with the music. They can’t get enough of Luca’s performance of this iconic song.
“Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth”
During his performance of ‘‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ it is clear to see that Luca is a very talented pianist with such a powerful voice. He has worked hard from such a young age to perfect his talent and get to where he is now.
The judges continue to enjoy the performance while their chairs are still turned with their backs towards Luca. You can see that they are all swaying along and mouthing the words to this popular song. As the judges press the red button and turn their chairs around, they are stunned to see such a young singer powerfully singing out this big song.
Luca’s family jumps up and down and cheers for him offstage when they see that the judges are starting to turn their chairs around for him. One male judge gets so into the performance that he stands up and starts playing the air guitar. What a fun and energetic environment Luca is bringing to the room!
May Luca continue to use his talents to bring joy to others, and may his talents take him far in order to achieve his dreams!
History was made on American Idol when contestant Courtney Timmons walked in off the streets for an emotional audition.
It all started when host Ryan Seacrest spotted Courtney outside of the auditions. That’s when he learned that she had been waiting around all day after discovering that the producers had already started the audition process.
Ryan emphasized with the 22-year-old and said, “The solution to that problem is me just taking you up there and seeing if they let you go.” So he led her right up to the judges who were just as stunned. “No one has heard her. We don’t have any idea what she sounds like.”
Without a moment’s hesitation, Courtney started to sing a mind-blowing rendition of ‘Rise Up’ by Andra Day.
“You're broken down and tired
Of living life on a merry go round
And you can't find the fighter
But I see it in you so we gonna walk it out
And move mountains
We gonna walk it out
And move mountains”
After the performance, the judges were in awe. Katy Perry said, “You’re probably the best singer that we’ve seen today.” It was during that moment that the emotions start to take over. “I want to be a singer more than anything. And then when they said this wasn’t an open call, I was a little discouraged,” Courtney explained. “But, when I tell ya’ll, I was gonna sit ALL day.”
Thankfully, the judges agreed that this young singer has what to takes for Hollywood. And with those words, even Ryan couldn’t hold back the tears as everyone surrounded Courtney for an emotional hug. What an incredible story!

If you are patriotic, you will like the words to this song. First recorded at Hilltop, Nashville, in 1983...then, after 9/11, I re-recorded at SonSound, NC, changing the 'dialogue' in the middle to send out a 'warning' to al qaeda [I spelled it alkida]. Whenever we are 'shocked' with the 'wilds' of satan through evil men and evil nations, Believers can just relax, and depend on God's Promises...praying for opportunities to 'Share Christ' while there's still time.
